Partner Feature: Career Development and Placement Strategies, Inc. (CDPS)
Career Development and Placement Strategies, Inc. (CDPS) offers a unique approach to workforce and personal development training. With the support of our partners – the Cuyahoga County Landbank, The Cleveland Foundation, The Cuyahoga County Office of Reentry and the Cuyahoga County Fatherhood Initiative Office – we expand upon the workforce development experience to include: (1) in-class employment orientation and soft skills training; (2) personality and aptitude assessments; (3) OSHA health and safety certification; (4)on-the-job construction and commercial cleaning trade skills training; and (5) mentoring and job coaching services. Wrap around services are provided to CDPS participants in the following training program tracks:
1. Home Renovation Internship Program (HRIP)- Offered in conjunction with the Cuyahoga Land Bank, this is a six-month on-the-job training program that offers participants exposure and experience in the carpentry trades. Interns learn proper procedures to drywall, paint, basic carpentry, window and door installation as well as gaining exposure to licensed trades such as electrical and plumbing.
2. Deconstruction Program – A three to six month, on-the-job training program introducing a “green” approach to demolition. Wood and stone materials are salvaged from vacant homes that are scheduled for demolition. Previously discarded in the dumps and landfills, these materials are used to create furniture and sold nationwide.
3. Residential and Commercial Cleaning Program – A continuously growing opportunity to give back to the community in long term value. CDPS, through its partner organization Expert Reclaim LLC, provides clean-out services of vacant residential properties to help prepare for demolition, renovation and deconstruction of the homes. In addition, Expert Reclaim LLC currently offers employment opportunities in the commercial cleaning industry.
4. Asbestos Abatement Initial Worker Certification Program -Selected participants are sponsored to a 40 hour certification training course and referred to corporate partners that offer opportunities in the employment field of asbestos abatement.
Following successful completion of CDPS’s four week orientation and soft skills training, participants are selected to enroll into the four aforementioned track of job skills training.
CDPS, in conjunction with its partner organization The Career Consulting Group, also offers train-the-trainer programming to other community based organizations, governmental agencies and municipalities. This training focuses on assisting other professional workforce training practitioners to develop and utilize best practice training techniques to engage their client base.
