Since 2016, Greater Cleveland Habitat – whose mission includes building and renovating homes and empowering Cleveland families through safe and affordable homeownership – has committed to Cleveland’s Buckeye neighborhood, which is seeing a resurgence following a period of disinvestment. The group is currently building eight new construction homes on Shale Avenue. The construction of three of the eight homes is supported by grant funding through the Cuyahoga Land Bank. The four-bedroom, two-bath 1,672 square-foot single-family homes are part of Habitat’s larger 100-home initiative in the neighborhood.
Habitat’s Buckeye Initiative has yielded dozens of fully rehabbed and newly constructed homes. These homes are sold at little to no profit with zero percent interest mortgages, with minimal down payments and closing costs. Approved homeowners qualify for a monthly housing payment of no more than 30% of their monthly income.
