The NEON Veterans Housing and Support Services (NVHSS) celebrated the completion of Phase One of its Veterans Housing Initiative at a ribbon cutting ceremony on July 18th. NEON board members, local government officials, Cuyahoga Land Bank leaders, veterans and neighborhood residents attended the event marking the completion of attractive and affordable living spaces for veterans and their families at East 152 Street and Saint Clair Avenue in Cleveland’s South Collinwood neighborhood.
The first phase of the initiative features six three-bedroom, two-level row houses which include spacious living and dining rooms, new appliances, front and rear porches and security alarm systems. Each home also has many green amenities, including energy efficient furnaces, double-pane windows and insulated doors. In addition to desirable housing, veterans residing in the complex will have access to a host of support services offered through NEON, a federally qualified health center that provides primary, preventative care, and health and dental services throughout urban areas.
“The men and women who serve our country have made many sacrifices,” said Cuyahoga Land Bank President Gus Frangos. “Providing veterans with affordable housing and support through programs like this is just one way of saying thank you.” The Cuyahoga Land Bank, a partner in the Veterans Housing Initiative, acquired the condemned property for the project and invested financially to help bring the project to completion.
The second phase of construction, once renovated, will include four two-bedroom suites located directly behind the row houses.
