CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Cuyahoga County Council committee on Monday approved changes to a proposed $30 million housing program that would allow cities to veto any rehabilitation or demolition of homes within their borders.
Other changes, if approved by the full council, also would allow the Cuyahoga Land Bank to use county money for demolition as well as rehabilitation and would require casino tax revenues to finance a bigger share of the program.
The full council is expected to vote on the legislation as early as next month. If approved, the six-year program would begin in 2020 with the aim of encouraging renovation of affordable housing, eliminating blight and stabilizing home values.
The legislation is sponsored by Council President Dan Brady, Vice President Pernel Jones Jr., and council members Dale Miller, Sunny Simon and Cheryl Stephens.
