Spirit Corner Brings Neighborhood Together

Spirit Corner is wildflowers and rain barrels. It’s a picnic table and three shelves of children’s books inside a Little Free Library that looks like a millionaire’s birdhouse.

It’s tree stumps repurposed as chairs and a cross section of a felled silver maple that serves as a table. It’s a giant teepee with no canvass that still seems to fit right where it is.

It is backyard rocks sledgehammered to size and carried there by hand, and fruit trees — Fuji and Honey Crisp apple and a peach — that are years away from delivering on their promise. Spirit Corner occupies land where a vacant house once stood for nearly six decades. You read that right. Vacant. For more than half a century.
