CLEVELAND, OH – The Ohio Department of Development has announced its latest round of funding for brownfield remediation and redevelopment projects across the State, and Cuyahoga Land Bank was awarded $40.4 million. The State solicited applications for this work through the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program starting late last year and has been announcing awards since August. In all, the Land Bank tallied funding for 34 projects totaling $111 million. The funds will be used for a variety of work including but not limited to:
• Environmental assessments
• Demolition
• Asbestos abatement
• Cleanup of vacant structures
• Soil remediation
The Brownfield program was designed to create room for new economic opportunities in areas that cannot currently be developed due to contamination or the presence of vacant, dilapidated structures. This program and the funds granted from it directly align with the Land Bank’s mission to return properties to productive use and support community goals to improve residents’ quality of life.
“We are grateful to the State of Ohio for their support as we continue our work in brownfield remediation and the development that can stem from it,” said Ricardo León, Cuyahoga Land Bank President & CEO. “The funds awarded for these projects will undoubtedly create valuable economic impact across our County that will improve our communities for years to come.”
Cuyahoga County has been an invaluable supporter of Land Bank work. “Receiving funding for brownfield remediation is a game-changer for our community,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne. “These funds allow us to transform underutilized and contaminated properties into opportunities for growth. We are grateful for the State’s support and look forward to working with the Cuyahoga Land Bank to revitalize neighborhoods across the County.”
