Since 2009, the non-profit Cuyahoga Land Bank has facilitated the renovation of more than 1,600 homes and demolished more than 6,000 blighted properties in Cuyahoga County.
Today, a new, modern single-family home stands on the site of a formerly blighted and abandoned property at 2168 West 29th Street. The development of the 2-bedroom 3-bath home in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood is a joint venture between the Cuyahoga Land Bank and Civic Builders.
“We are very excited about this development project because this property went from tax delinquency, foreclosure and neglect to productive use,” says Dennis Roberts, Director of Programs and Property Management at the Cuyahoga Land Bank.
Civic Builders is a Cleveland-based construction company that has completed numerous new home constructions in Cleveland neighborhoods. As co-developers of the project, the Cuyahoga Land Bank and Civic Builders agreed to split the net proceeds from the sale of the home. The Cuyahoga Land Bank will use its share of the profits to renovate additional affordable homes.
The West 29th Street home is the first of two homes to be built on the site. Construction of the second single-family home on an adjacent lot began in December and is currently for sale.
